New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday took over the additional charge of the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Speaking to reporters after taking charge, Mr Prabhu said aviation industry played integral role in creating jobs in the last four years and it was only a trailer of development.
“Aviation industry played integral role in creating jobs. What you’ve seen is trailer of ‘vikas’, under PM Modi’s leadership sky isn’t the limit,’ Mr Prabhu said.
He said expanding the air connectivity in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the focus area of the ministry.
He also said he was looking forward to working towards making air travel a pleasurable experience for the citizens.
Mr Prabhu said the aviation sector was competing with other modes of transportation and such competition would help in bringing down the cost of logistics.
Mr Prabhu assumed charge at a time when the government is in the process of finalising the modalities for strategic disinvestment of national carrier Air India.
Earlier, acting on the advice of PM Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind directed Mr Prabhu to take up the additional charge.
This comes after the resignation of incumbent Ashok Gajapati Raju of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) after the latter parted ways with the NDA government.
